BELMONT— The St. Andrews Presbyterian College wrestling team won half of the 10 matches Tuesday evening but host Belmont Abbey College pulled out the 25-18 dual match victory by scoring more points including the only two pins of the contest.

Freshman Luke Olsen highlighted the five wins for St. Andrews (2-9) with an 18-3 technical fall at 149. Olsen had a team-high five takedowns en route to the convincing victory.

The Abbey (2-15) scored 18 of its 25 points with a pair of falls at 125 and 174 and a forfeit win at 165, which proved too much to overcome for SAPC.

The Knights won three straight trips to the mat to take an 11-6 advantage before the Crusaders rallied. Junior Casey Gashaw and freshman Brian Beatson both won close decisions to tie the score at 6-6. Gashaw put the Royal Blue & White on the board with a 3-2 win at 133 before Beatson used three takedowns in a 9-7 victory at 149. Olsen followed with his highlight reel W.

Gashaw (5-4) leads SAPC with five total dual match wins while Beatson (4-1) has won three consecutive dual bouts.

After closing the gap to 11-10 with a major decision victory at 157, Belmont Abbey regained the lead for good with a forfeit win at 165 and a pin at 174.

St. Andrews made things interesting late by winning the next to tilts, which narrowed the deficit to four (22-18) heading into the final match. Freshmen Davin Morris and Greg Polhemus both moved up a weight for the Knights and still won. Morris posted a 12-4 major decision at 184 followed by a 6-4 decision by Polhemus at 197.

Freshman Joshua Price -- who also moved up in weight as regular starting heavyweight Andre Ellerbe was unable to wrestle due to injury – fought tough in the last match but was unable to pull off the improbable win losing 6-0.

St. Andrews will host a tri-match on Saturday, Feb. 21. The Knights entertain the Apprentice School Builders at Noon and NCAA Division I Campbell University Camels at 3 p.m. Apprentice and Campbell will clash between those two duals at 1:30 p.m. at Harris Court.
