Sophomore guard Megan Lee swished a game-high 26 points for a depleted St. Andrews Presbyterian College squad in a 90-57 Conference Carolinas women’s basketball loss to Anderson University.
All twelve players scored for the Trojans as AU improves to 13-9 overall and 12-5 in the conference after netting their third straight win. The Lady Knights, who played the last 16-plus minutes with only four players, stumble to 2-18 and 1-16.
Lee tied her season-high point total with 26 points taking nearly 40-percent of the team’s shots (9-of-24). Sophomore guard Brittany Roberts just missed a double-double with 15 points and a game-high nine rebounds for the Royal Blue & White.
Lee scored 16 of her 26 points in the first half as the two teams played a close first seven minutes that featured three ties and four lead changes. Lee provided SAPC with its only two leads on a three-pointer (8-6) and jumper (10-9) in a 30 second span early in the contest.
Anderson broke a 13-13 tie with 18 straight points in a four-minute surge to take a double figure lead for the remainder of the game. The Trojans took advantage of the Knights usual starting point guard and best ball hander, senior Jaquese Smith, out of the lineup due to illness by using a full-court press in the first 20 minutes that resulted in 23 points off 16 St. Andrews turnovers.
SAPC freshman Essence Chism, who was coming off her first collegiate double-double, suffered a leg injury early in the game and senior Kayla Hay fouled out early in the second half resulting in the Knights playing with only four players for the final 16 minutes and 28 seconds, allowing Anderson to pull away for the 33-point victory.
Junior Ashley Abed led the Trojans with 20 points on 8-of-10 precision including 3-for-3 perfection on three-pointers. Senior Shanice Wilson and junior Lauren Beeson both poured in 11 points for the visitors.
AU shot 43.2-percent compared to 31.1-percent by St. Andrews. The Trojans made 10 three-pointers at a 37-percent clip while the Knights made five treys at 31.3-percent. Senior Korie Sellers led the Anderson frontcourt with seven rebounds as the Trojans controlled the boards, 49-39.
Freshman Kayla McBath filled up the box score with seven points, seven rebounds, three blocks, one assist, and one steal for the Knights.
