Freshman midfielder Megan Jolly scored half of the Lady Knights (0-1) goals but eight Tars (1-0) scored as Rollins rolled to the 18-goal victory. RC is the only team outside the national top-10 to receive votes in the IWLCA Preseason National Poll.
Junior Kim McDaniel and freshman Victoria Bickett accounted for the Knights other goals. Jolly and Bickett both recorded their first collegiate goals for SAPC in the contest.
Junior attacker Liz Connelly led Rollins with a hat trick and four assists, for a total of seven points on the day.
The Tars stifled the Knights in all areas, out-shooting their opponent 44-6, grabbing more ground balls 55-23, winning 22-of-28 draw controls, and finding success on 15-of-16 clears in comparison to SAPC’s 11-of-18. The Tars committed only 14 turnovers all contest, and caused 12 of the Knights’ 22 total turnovers.
The Tars scored the first five goals before Bickett put the Knights on the board with a free-position shot at the 19:18 mark of the first half. Jolly scored her goal 10 minutes later but Rollins held a commanding 12-2 lead at halftime. The Tars outscored St. Andrews 10-2 in the final 30 minutes.
In her first start at St. Andrews, junior transfer Morgan Achilles made a game-high 13 saves and had a team-high seven ground balls in net.
McDaniel found the twine in the back of the Tars goal on a free-position shot at the midway point of the second half. Both of Jolly’s goals were unassisted marks. Jolly also had half of the Royal Blue & White’s six draw controls with three.
Rollins saw four-goal scoring efforts from sophomore midfielder Tori Snow, as well as newcomers Sarah Ann Showell and Erica Pagliarulo. Connelly and Marissa Giannerini notched a hat trick apiece, while Mallory Suprless fired two of her own between the pipes. Both Lacy Goodwyn and Sophie Townsend rallied to find one goal each to round out the hosts goal scoring.
St. Andrews has 10 days to prepare for its home opener against No. 4 nationally ranked Mercyhurst College on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 3 p.m.
