The long-time Laurinburg representative says he'll help create jobs, improve education and address healthcare concerns if his reelection bid is successful.
"It has been an honor and a privilege to represent the citizens in the 46th House District," Yongue said. "I sincerely appreciate the confidence and support you have given me in the past.
"If reelected, I will welcome your input as we seek ways to make positive improvement in these troubled economic times. There is no question in my mind that jobs, education and health issues should become major areas of concern."
Yongue is a chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, which is responsible for developing the state's annual budget. He is also a vice chairman of the Ethics Committee and a member of the Education Committee, Federal Relations and India Affairs Committee, Rules, Calendar and Operations of the House committee, State Government and State Personnel committee and the subcommittee on colleges and universities. He is also a co-chairman of the Legislative Task Force on Childhood Obesity.
Before joining the North Carolina General Assembly 16 years ago, Yongue was an educator and school administrator in Scotland and Robeson counties. He retired as interim superintendent of the Robeson County School System in 1993. He was tapped to fill the seat of Rep. Danny Devane in February of 1994 and has been elected to the seat eight times.
House District 46 includes portions of Scotland, Robeson and Hoke counties.
