Lady Scots finish season on a high note

PEMBROKE- Despite starting the season 1-5, the Scotland ninth-grade girl’s basketball team completed their season winning three of their last five games, including a 38-31 victory over Purnell Swett.

“I felt that the girls finally played up to their potential the second time around against these teams,” Lady Scots coach David Brooks said. “I was really pleased with the girl’s effort down the final stretch of the season.”

Trailing by two (10-8) after the first quarter, Scotland (4-7) outscored the Lady Rams, 8-0, in the second and took a six-point lead, 16-10, at halftime.

Consecutive baskets by Kadejah McRae, made it an eight-point lead (20-12) with 4:57 to play in the third.

The Lady Scots increased the lead to 12 (24-12) following lay-ups from McRae and Alexsa Cousar.

Purnell Swett (6-7) countered with an 8-0 run, cutting the Scotland lead to just four, 24-20, entering the fourth quarter.

A lay-up from Cousar, upped the lead back up to six (26-20) early in the fourth.

After the Lady Rams cut the lead to 28-25 with four minutes to play.

McRae made it a five-point game, 30-25, with a field goal.

The basket sparked an 8-0 run for the Lady Scots, highlighted by a lay-up from Kaylin Ganus, which put the game out of reach.

McRae led a pair of Lady Scots in double figures with a game-high 20 points, ten in each of the halves. Cousar complimented her with 14.

Colleen Chavis paced the Lady Rams with 18 points.
