PEMBROKE-After dropping two of their last three games, the Scotland jayvee boys basketball team traveled to neighboring Robeson County searching for a win Monday night.

They returned home with their mission completed.

The Scots put up their second highest point total of the season in an 81-47 win over Purnell Swett. The win moves them to 10-5 overall and 4-2 in the Southeastern Conference.

"It feels real good to get back in the win column. We needed that one," Scotland coach James Bethea said. "The defense played really well."

Jauan Petty paced a quartet of Scotland players in double figures with 14 points. Donte Johnson put up 13 while Caison Murphy and Trey McRae chipped in 10 apiece. Overall, 11 players got into the scoring column.

For McRae, who played a reserve role on the Scotland varsity squad, coming in and contributing right away is exactly what Bethea expects from him.

"He knows what it's like to play at a high level," Bethea said of the sophomore. "He's still learning how to play team basketball but he's getting there."

Lonnel Henderson came off the bench and scored six points and got high praise from his coach.

"I was extremely happy with his play," said Bethea of Henderson. "Normally, he's not always able to make big contributions but was able to come in and get a couple of baskets right away."

Scotland will travel to Hoke County Friday at 5 pm.

Lady Scots drop third straight

PEMBROKE-After stringing together ten straight wins, the Scotland jayvee girl's basketball team has hit a rough patch, losing their last two games.

Make that three in a row now.

The Lady Scots were denied a season sweep of Purnell Swett, falling 44-38.

Tykeria Johnson was the lone Scotland (11-4, 3-3) player in double digits with 10 ten points. Shonte Deese complimented her with eight.

Jasmine Douglas, Lateesa Smith and Alexis Bullard all added four points apiece for the Lady Scots.
