A Scotland County man was recently certified by a state program in workplace health and safety

Michael D. Laviner of Advanced Emergency Service Training, Inc. was recently notified that he had completed the requirements and earned the Manager of Environmental, Safety and Health certificate. The business is in Laurinburg.

"The Department of Labor is extremely pleased that Michael D. Laviner has been named as a recipient of the Manager of Environmental, Safety and Health certificate," N.C. Labor Commissioner Cherie K. Berry said. "The certificate reflects a commitment to workplace safety and health, an objective that we consider essential in making sure that workers in this state go home safe at the end of the workday."

The program is designed to increase the professionalism of environmental, safety and health managers at governmental, commercial and manufacturing sites in North Carolina through a rigorous series of continuing education programs. The program strives to recognize environmental managers, raise industry standards and increase the value of these practitioners to their employers and others to whom their services are provided.

The award is sponsored by NC State University, the Safety and Health Council of NC, and the NC Department of Labor.
