Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

An 46-year-old Maxton man accused of dealing drugs was jailed after a traffic stop where officers say they found several rocks of crack cocaine.

Lee Elwood Britt, Jr., of N.C. 130, was arrested Friday afternoon and charged with possession with the intent to sell and deliver cocaine, maintaining a drug vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a Laurinburg police report. He was placed in Scotland County jail under a $20,000 bond.

Britt was traveling east on U.S. 74-Bypass through Laurinburg when an officer stopped his burgundy 1987 Toyota Halfton after noticing the tag was partially obscured by mud, according to the report. Britt consented to a search of his vehicle, where police found eight grams of crack cocaine and a crack pipe.

Felon caught with drugs, gun

A convicted felon was caught with drugs and a stolen gun during a traffic stop, according to a police report.

Gary Wayne Locklear, 40, of N.C. 130, Maxton, was arrested Friday and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and simple possession of marijuana, according to the report. Officers found 10 grams of marijuana and a .380 handgun while searching the back seat of Locklear's car.

He was placed in Scotland County jail under a $5,000 bond.

Locklear has prior convictions for thefts, break-ins and an assault, according to the N.C. Department of Correction..

Pills, gun stolen in B&E

A 68-year-old Laurinburg woman reported that prescription pills were taken from her home during an overnight break-in, according to a sheriff's report.

Minnie Smith told deputies on Friday that someone broke out the bedroom window of her Plant Road home and stole 70 Lorcet pills, 45 nerve pills, 45 anxiety pulls, blood pressure pills and a .38 revolver valued at $500.

S.C. teen charged in break-in

A 17-year-old South Carolina teen was charged with two December break-ins, according to a sheriff's report.

Larry Norton III, of Pine Lane, Wallace, is charged with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, attempted breaking and entering into a motor vehicle and felony larceny, the report said. Norton was released on a written promise to appear in court.
