Bail was set at $1 million for Frank Silvestry when he was jailed in September and charged with 26 counts of obtaining property by false pretenses, 23 counts of embezzlement of state property and one count of felony conversion.
He is being represented by Jonathan McInnis of the Public Defenders office.
This isn't Silvestry's first request at a lower bond
Silvestry initially asked a Scotland County judge to reduce his seven-figure bond at his first court appearance on Sept. 28, telling the judge "I don't have 10 cents."
The judge declined the request, alluding to the flight risk associated with someone who was arrested more than 250 miles from his home after missing a court date.
The 75-year old Pinehurst man was arrested in Savannah, Ga. after a 19-day flight from justice – Silvestry had been ordered to surrender to authorities on Sept. 3.
According to arrest warrants, Silvestry is accused of failing to pay off trade-ins and then selling them with outstanding debts, which allegedly affected people's credit scores and caused at least one person to lose their car to a creditor.
Silvestryu is also accused of failing to pay state taxes and fees he collected from customers and for accepting a deposit on two Chevrolet Corvettes that were never ordered.
Silvestry was the owner of Silvestry Chevrolet in Laurinburg. The dealership closed last January.
