American Championship Wrestling was back in town and with it came all the thrills you come to expect from professional wrestling.
Bill Graves, co-owner of ACW, who wrestles under the name Ethan Storm, says that entertaining the fans is what they're suppose to do and if the fans are entertained, they've done their jobs.
"The fans definitely got their money's worth and that's what we aim to do," Graves said. "Put on family entertainment just like the old NWA (National Wrestling Alliance) use to do, and it's good, wholesome entertainment."
The first match of the night was a tag team match between BD Productions and Jack Hammer & Luscious Lonny Gaylord.
In a back-and-forth match, the team of Hammer and Gaylord were victorious when Hammer hit the frog splash, a finishing move made famous by the late Eddie Guerrero, and pinned his opponent.
Next up was a tag match between Brute Force II and the Flying Lee Edwards & Billy Brash. Despite Brute Force winning by pinfall, Brash, an instant fan favorite, loves being able to perform in towns like Laurinburg and hopes to continue to move up the ranks and eventually end up wrestling in World Wrestling Entertainment or Total Non-stop Action (TNA).
"I really enjoy coming to this venue," said Brash, a Columbia, South Carolina native. "It's hard work doing this, but getting a chance to perform in front of a great crowd makes it worthwhile. Everybody starts out being a fan of something and mine was wrestling so I want to show everyone that if you have a dream, go for it."
The big match of the night was the Last Man Standing Match between the Samoan, Futonga, and Chief Red Thunder for the ACW United States Heavyweight title.
The match was a brutal one with weapons coming into play and even some steel.
Both men tried to gain an edge as the match spilled out into the sold-out Armory and a garage door ended up being the equalizer.
Futonga got the garage door to come down and lay on Chief Red Thunder's chest and Futonga was deemed victorious because Chief Red Thunder was unable to respond to the referee's 10-count.
Futonga's celebration was short lived following the match when Alex Adonis, the former US title holder, got up in 400-plus pounders' face and the two had to be separated by referee's and security.
Storm and the members of the Elements of Execution: Scott Powers, Chris Steele along with their manager, Alex Vanderbilt came out to address the crowd following the confrontation.
Apprantly, Adonis and his tag team partners, The Lumbee Warrior and Dylan Kage, had heard enough and wanted to start the match early, which brought out the event planner.
His announcement sent shock-waves through the crowd as he announced that Storm was banned from the evening's six-man tag main event and now was going to be a 3-on-2 handicap match between the Main Attraction (Powers and Steele), and the team of The Lumbee Warrior, Kage and Adonis.
Intermission followed that announcement as the wrestlers signed autographs and took pictures with the fans.
Adonis said that he loves being able to come and perform in a town like Laurinburg, but just loves to fight in general.
"I like coming to Laurinburg because the crowd is always great and they're always into it," Adonis said. "I like being able to beat people up, it doesn't matter where, whether its a wrestling ring or the octagon."
Following the break, Timber "The insane Lumberjack" faced off with his former partner turned enemy, Sixx.
The masked superstar (Sixx) picked up the win with a vicious choke slam.
Once main event took place, both teams were ready to fight from the start as Kage went right after Steele out in the crowd before the match was even official.
The team of The Lumbee Warrior, Adonis and Kage looked to have the upper hand before a banned Storm came out to the ring and brought his trademark hammer.
Storm clubbed The Lumbee Warrior in the skull and the Powers and Steele were disqualified.
The assault continued on the winning team until Sixx came out and all of the Elements scattered from the ring as he raised up the Lumbee Warrior and Kage's arms in victory.
The Lumbee Warrior, who now resides in Winston-Salem, enjoys being able to come back and perform for his fans in Scotland County.
"It's actually an incredible experience being able to come out and perform near my hometown," said the Lumberton native.
The goal of professional wrestling is to keep the fans entertained and wanting more. For ACW, they did just that and more.
