Mr. William “Terry” Wright, 70, of 839 Freeman Mill Road, Hamlet, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at his residence.

He was born June 27, 1939 in Richmond County, son of William Burl Wright and Elizabeth Mills Wright.

Terry was a lifetime member of Second Baptist Church of Hamlet. He worked for CSX Railroad for 43 years as a machinist at the diesel shop. He was a founding member of the Sandhill Shag Club; he was well known for farming, as he farmed for over 40 years, mostly growing soybeans, cotton and corn. He also grew a large garden and supplied many friends with fresh vegetables.

As a younger man he loved quail, rabbit and deer hunting. He was well known for his dove hunts every Labor Day when he would cook BBQ for his hunting buddies.

Terry went to the beach, when able, for SOS events. He was famous for these BBQs, which he took great pride in cooking on a cooker he made himself that only used wood for cooking.

Then there was sports; he loved them all and loved to help young boys improve their skills. He had been a baseball coach for almost all ages and groups.

Terry was a wonderful family man. His one desire was to provide for his family and try to never hurt anyone. He helped almost everyone that asked and tried to be friends with everyone.

Last but not least, Terry loved his Lord and his church family. He was proud to be a Christian, and like his father before him, lived his life accordingly. His family was his second love, as the Lord was first.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Hawks and the Rev. Scott Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Mary Love Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Lydia Case Wright of the home; sons, Dwayne Wright and wife Gina of Hamlet and Craig Wright and wife Rita of Bennettsville, S.C.; a brother, Eugene Wright and wife Eleanor of Mint Hill; sisters, Sylvia Cox and husband Stokley of W.
