A man accused in the Christmas day slaying of a Laurel Hill woman was charged with first-degree murder at a hearing on Friday.

Laurinburg police arrested 32-year old Richard Franklin Hall, of 22861 Marston Road, Laurel Hill on Dec. 26 in the death of 42-year-old Clorina Adams.

The hearing, which lasted under five minutes, was a formal procedure required because of the omission of the degree of the charge on the arrest warrant, according to District Attorney Kristy Newton.

Hall did not speak at the hearing.

The hearing was held on Friday to coincide with a custody hearing by the Department of Social Services that involved Hall.

Hall is being held at Central Prison in Raleigh for the time being because of medical concerns. He is currently being represented by Attorney Geoffry W. Hosford of Wilmington.

Hosford declined to comment.

Authorities believe Hall and Adams had a confromtation, after which Hall drove over Adams' body several times with a 2001 Lincoln Navigator.

Police are unsure the exact nature of the relationship of Hall and Adams or what caused the confrontation.
