A court hearing is scheduled today for the 32-year old Laurel Hill man accused of killing a woman on Christmas with a Sports Utility Vehicle.

Richard Franklin Hall, of 22861 Marston Road, was charged Dec. 26 with the Christmas Day slaying of 42-year-old Clorina Adams, of 1800 Ellison Street, Laurel Hill. Hall is being held in Scotland County jail without bond.

The hearing, which will be held at the Scotland County Courthouse, will determine the severity of the charge against Hall, according to Laurinburg Detective Chris Young. He had not yet been told the time of the hearing.

Police said Hall and Adams were seen riding in a 2001 Lincoln Navigator – the same SUV that police say was later used to kill Adams, according to Young.

The Navigator was registered to Sherry Kay Johnson, Hall's current wife.

Young said police are unsure the exact nature of the relationship, why the two were together on Christmas or what caused the confrontation. Police say alcohol was a factor in the slaying.

Officials are uncertain of whether the argument began inside the vehicle or out on the roadway of Washington Street, Young said.

Officers were called to the scene at about 8:15 p.m. and found Adams' body on the road, police said. Officers initially believed the incident to be an hit-and-run.

Young said multiple witness accounts and forensic evidence linked Adams to the crime.

Hall drove over Adams' body more than once, police said, though the number of times the woman was struck and the extent of the injuries will be determined by the medical examiner.
