A Laurel Hill man accused of intentionally killing a woman with his car on Christmas night had his first court appearance on Monday.

Laurinburg police arrested 32-year old Richard Franklin Hall, of 22861 Marston Road, on Saturday.

He was charged with murder for the slaying of 42-year-old Clorina Adams, of 1800 Ellison Street, Laurel Hill, on Friday, according to a police report. Hall is being held in Scotland County jail without bond.

Witnesses told officers that Hall assaulted Adams on Washington Street in Laurinburg sometime around 8 p.m., then ran over her with his SUV, according to the report.

Police were called at 8:15 p.m. and an officer arrived at 8:17 p.m., finding Adams' body lying in the road, according to Detective Chris Young. Officers initially believed the incident to be an accidental hit-and-run but quickly determined the death to be purposeful.

Hall fled the scene, but Young said witness testimony led authorities to Hall and he was arrested at his home at 4 a.m. Saturday with the assistance of Scotland County deputies.

Hall drove over Adams body more than once, Young said, though the number of times Adams was struck with the vehicle and the extent of the injuries will be determined by the medical examiner.

The Laurinburg detective said there is still a lot police don't know about Friday's death, including a motive and the degree of the murder charge.

Adams, also known as Punky, has been incarcerated in the past for charges of breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and several drug charges, according to the N.C. Department of Correction.
