A memorial mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church officiated by the Rev. JaVon Saxon. Visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall and other times at her home.
She is survived by her daughter, Amanda “Mandy” Danchi and husband Richard of Cary; two sisters, Patrania Cristall of Bennettsville, S.C. and Marguerite Johnson of Portsmouth, Va.; and one grandson, Alex Danchi of Cary.
Born Jan. 6, 1923 in Johnston County, she was a daughter of the late George L. and Rosa McColl George and widow of the late John Purcell “Hawk” Shaw. She was employed for many years by the U.S. Census Bureau and was active as a volunteer at Scotland Memorial Hospital and was active in the Scotch Gardeners Garden Club and the Scotland Twirlers square dancers. She was also instrumental in establishing a safe environment for young people in the 1970’s known as “The Barn.” Rosa Belle was also active with St. Mary Catholic Church in many capacities.
