Funeral services will be Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at Green Pond Church of God in Christ at 3760 Old Wire Road, Gibson. Superintendent George Walter Davis, Jr., pastor, will officiate. Viewing will be Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009 at Purcell Funeral Home in Southern Pines from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009 at Purcell Funeral Home in Laurinburg from 3 to 6 p.m. Family and friends will be received at 611 West Massachusetts Avenue, Southern Pines.
Survivors are his wife, Vivian Whitfield of Southern Pines; two sons, Charles McLaughlin of Southern Pines and Greg McLaughlin of Southern Pines; two daughters, Lytesha Vample of Grand Rapids, Mich. and Sheena Chambers of Southern Pines; 13 grandchildren; one sister, Mae Helen Whitfield of Washington, D.C.; and two brothers, Charles Whitfield of Gibson and Williams Whitfield of Laurel Hill.
Purcell Funeral Home of Southern Pines is serving the family.
