Campbell Soup brought a tractor trailer of supplies for Christmas Cheer on Friday while Murphy Brown LLC brought a pickup truck of food donations to Church and Community Services.
Employees of Campbell Soup plant in Maxton lined up by the Christmas Cheer office at 8:30 a.m. to pass donations into the charity.
Though they could see their breath, the men and women of Campbell soup fought the could through thick clothing, warm hearts and Christmas caroling as the handed items off the trucks one by one.
Eutha Tart, director of Christmas Cheer, says she is grateful for every donation in what has been a hard year for charities.
"It means a lot to us," Tart said. "Last year, we had $11,000 and year we only have $6,000. We are way down in finances."
Christmas Cheer is a program to help needy families during the holiday season. It distributes food, clothing and toys.
Cathy Poole, employee relations manager, said Campbell Soup donated $30,000 worth of food, supplies and bicycles between Christmas Cheer in Scotland County and several charities in Robeson County.
"It's just the generosity of our employees," Poole said. "They are thankful they have jobs in this economy and they do this every year. This year, they have done this bigger than ever."
Poole says the soup company solicited the donation of six palettes of personal hygiene products from Unilever in Raeford.
Of the donations the company brought in, six palettes was from the company itself while the bikes and many other donations came from the employees themselves.
