Jayvee Lady Scots cruise past Anson

After disposing of rival Marlboro County Friday evening, the Scotland jayvee girls had little trouble with Anson County.

The Lady Scots were paced by 11 points from Shantel Smith as Scotland improved to 5-1 on the season with a 53-31 win Monday night.

“I told the girls to come out and execute and play good defense,” said Scotland coach Linda Crossland. “That’s exactly what they did.”

After leading by just five (9-4) after the first quarter, the Lady Scots started an 8-0 run over the next 2:50 in the second quarter, to take a 13-point (17-4) lead on a field goal from Tykeria Johnson. She would finish with eight points.

Scotland led, 24-7, at halftime. after scoring the Lady Bearcats, 15-3, in the second quarter.

The Lady Scots continued to built up their lead in the third quarter and led, 37-15, going into the final quarter of play.

Scotland opened up their biggest lead of the game, 45-19 with 5:20 left in the game on a lay-up from Quintavia Deberry.

Anson would counter with an 11-4 run to the lead to 19 (49-30) with 1:52 to play.

The Lady Scot defense took care of business down the stretch, holding the Lady Bearcats to just a single point the rest of the game to preserve the win.

Along with Smith and Johnson, Scotland go nine points from Shonte Deese and eight apiece from from Deberry and Qua Diggs.

Jasmine LeGrande paced Anson with 10 points and Maky Allen finished with nine.
