The ECA is a group that keep things cooking.

The most recent concoction of the group, which has existed for nearly 65 years, is a cookbook that compiles history from 1945 to present and features pictures and bios of prominent members of the Scotland County Extension and Community Association – the ECA.

The cookbook was unveiled at the 2009 Achievement Program, where awards are given out and the new officers are installed.

The book itself seems simple, with a plain, blue cover adorned by a Scotland County flag and the phrase "The Best of the Best."

Juanita Bowen says this cookbook is a major undertaking that represents the proud history of the club and all the things it has accomplished.

The book celebrates a number of ECA alumnae, including the members that started the first recycling program in Scotland County and the originator of the annual candidates forum at the courthouse.

The book can be bought for $20.

Outgoing president Ida Steward says the ECA plays an important role in educating people in Scotland County.

"The ECA is a group of ladies who came together years ago to educate the younger people in how to preserve home goods, like canning vegetables, sewing – all the thing that women and men have to do today to take care of a household," Stewart said. "Our main goal is to improve the quality of life of the people in Scotland County in whatever way that we can, if its through education with classes in cooking, finance or sewing, or being a volunteer to the sick – whatever is needed is what we do."

The ECA is made up of three local groups – the Wagram Club, the Central Friendship Club and the Town and County Club – each representing different communities within Scotland County/
