According to church member Kyle Bethel, a variety of foods and gift items will be available for the holiday shopper.
"We will have fresh wreaths and garland roping from the North Carolina mountains, along with red, pink, and white poinsettias," Bethel said. "Wreaths will be available in two sizes, small ones from 12 to 15 inches, and larger ones about 25 to 30 inches in diameter. And then there's the food."
Visitors to Market Day will have the opportunity to purchase a number of home baked breads, desserts, frozen soups, and casseroles, according to Bethel.
"We will have breads, cookies, brownies, candies, soups, and a lot more for sale, all made by members of St. David's church," she said. "At last year's event someone said, 'whatever you have left, I'll buy it', with the idea that these delicious casseroles and baked goods could be used as holiday food items for the family."
Holiday note cards will be available for purchase as well.
"We have a plant called a Night Blooming Cereus, a beautiful plant related to the cactus family," Bethel said. "To raise money for the church, we are offering photographic views of the plant in bloom to be sold as gift cards in packages of 10, with envelopes, for $12. The Night Blooming Cereus is a wonderful plant that blooms only in a 24-hour period. The original came from Mr. Marshall James of Maxton, who gave us a plant one year."
The bloom has a Biblical connotation, according to Bethel.
"Night Blooming Cereus is also known as Christ in the Cradle," Bethel said. "How apropos to have a blossom that reflects this image as a card for the celebration of Christmas."
The Rev. Marty Stebbins is vicar of St. David's.
"Market Day is a wonderful time of fellowship mixed with great food to eat and to take home as well, along with some beautiful crafts that have been made by area artisans," she said. "Some of those who have donated their work are members of St. David's, and some are friends of the church who support its ministries in the community."
Stebbins invites everyone to enjoy the traditional day at the church.
"Market Day has been a St. David's tradition for many years," she said. "We do hope the community will come and have a cup of hot chocolate while they browse and enjoy the music and fellowship."
A Soup-n-Bread lunch will be available for hungry shoppers as well.
