The group of boys may be different for the Scotland ninth grade basketball team, but the goal is still the same: keep the streak alive.

They did that in convincing fashion Monday evening.

The Scots got a game-high 14 points from Forrest Johnson and defeated Richmond Green, 45-25.

For Scotland (1-0), it was their 17th consecutive win, dating back to last year.

Right out of the gates, the Scots went on a 7-2 run in the first 2:13 of the game, forcing the Raiders to call a time-out. Richmond cut the deficit to three (9-6) after the first quarter.

The Scots by as much as 13 (21-8) in the first half, following baskets from Artemis Robinson and Johnson.

The Raiders cut the lead to ten (21-11) at halftime following a three-pointer from Cody Wilson.

Richmond cut the lead to seven (21-14) at the beginning of the third before a 10-2 run by the Scots put them up by 15 (31-16) with 2:21 left in the third. Scotland led, 33-16 after three quarters.

In all, Scotland outscored the Raiders, 24-10, the second and third quarters.

Scotland continued to increase their lead, building as much as a 24-point lead (45-21) with less than a minute to play in the game.

Ryan Leak contributed to Johnson’s game with seven points, Jesse Young added six while Tony Deberry and Tralen Jones each chipped in four apiece.

Johnson also added four blocks to his production.

Rashard Holliday paced the Raiders (0-1) with seven points. Wilson and Talvon Jones each had six apiece.

Like the girls, Scotland will travel to South View next Monday looking to extend their undefeated streak to 18 games.
