A fire days before the Thanksgiving holiday has left Laurinburg family of five homeless.

The singe-wide trailer at 511 Old Lumberton Road caught fire at around 2 p.m. Sunday and was destroyed, according to a Laurinburg fire report.

No one was harmed in the fire, officials said.

Fire officials have not determined the cause of the fire.

It took firefighters about 30 minutes to contain the blaze.

The report lists $12,500 in damages to the home and its belongings. The fire was ruled unintentional.

The Scotland County Chapter of the American Red Cross helped the family with food, clothing and temporary shelter at a local hotel, according to JoAnn Faulkner.

"The home was destroyed so you know they will be scrambling to find permanent living arrangements," Faulkner said. "That's devastating any time of year."

She said the assistance is free and provided by donations from the general public and funding from the United Way of Scotland County.

Anyone interested in helping the family can do so through the American Red Cross. Contributions may be given at the Atkinson Street office or sent to P.O. Box 927, Laurinburg, NC, 28352.

Interested donors may also call the office at 276-0600.
