One lucky raffle ticket holder will receive a home made dollhouse if he or she is the winner in a drawing to be held Dec. 13.

Dollhouse maker Frank Jute of Laurinburg has again offered one of his creations to the public, with all proceeds going toward the St. Mary's Catholic Church beautification project.

"I built my first doll house about 11 years ago for my granddaughter," Jute said. "I built another for a second granddaughter this summer, and from there constructed the blue dollhouse being offered in the church raffle."

It all started when Jute was asked by women in the parish to build something for the purpose of fundraising for the church.

"These houses come in the form of kits, which I build and custom paint," Jute said. "It's fun, and people seem to enjoy them."

The dollhouse offered in this year's raffle is 39 inches tall, 28 inches long, and 18 inches deep.

"It has nine rooms, stairs, and has hardwood floors," Jute said with a chuckle.

As with most dollhouses, the design is open in the back for easy access. Jute has anchored the house on a piece of wood with grass carpeting surrounding the structure.

Last year's dollhouse raffle winner was Monica Tavai.

"I was very excited to win the dollhouse made by Mr. Jute last year," Tavai said. "It's beautiful, and has excellent craftsmanship."

Tavai, who is furnishing the house to give to her 2 year old niece when she becomes a little older, said she is not planning to compete for another prize.

"I'll let someone else have the good fortune of winning one of these dollhouses," she said.

Raffle tickets are available for $2 each at the Daily Grind, Heritage Styling Salon, the Hallmark store, and other locations, or by calling the church at 276-4468. The drawing for the winner of the dollhouse will be made at the church Dec. 13. You do not have to be present to win.
