A car accident sent two to the hospital and blocked rush hour traffic in Laurinburg.

Two cars – a black Toyota Camry and a blue Toyota Corolla – collided at about 5 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Church Street and Atkinson Street.

The Camry was traveling north on Atkinson and failed to stop at a stop light, striking the driver side of the Corolla as it was traveling west on Church, according to Officer James Munger, LPD.

Both vehicles stopped on Church Street facing north.

Laurinburg police arrived quickly to direct traffic as tow trucks were called to clear the scene.

Scotland County Heavy Rescue also assisted.

Two people were placed in neck braces and laid down on stretchers by the rescue squad. Munger believed the pair were passengers, but was uncertain as his investigation was unfinished.
