College Application Week has been in full swing at the Scotland High Schools this week, with computer labs being staffed with additional personnel to assist students in gathering information on and applying for college and financial aid.

"We have had a great week," said Lee McCanna, guidance counselor in the School of Visual and Performing Arts. "Students have been learning about college and financial aid and through the College Foundation have been applying to schools. I have had several students to tell me that they would not have applied for college now had it not been for this opportunity this week."

During this week, students have been able to apply to 30 of the 26 private colleges and universities in North Carolina with no application fee. The sixteen schools for the North Carolina University system have waived fees for students who demonstrate financial need.

"This is a great kick off event for our students who are looking to go to college," McCanna said, "but we are going to encourage our students to continue to explore college opportunities, apply to schools and seek out the financial help that is readily available to them if they chose to pursue their education."
