Ruth Smiling Goins, of Maxton, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009 at the age of 87.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009 at Union Light Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Romey Revels, the Rev. Carson Smiling and the Rev. Bernard Locklear. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Goins was born June 22, 1922 in Robeson County, daughter of the late David Solomon Smiling and Margie Epps Smiling. She was the devoted wife of the late Jesse L. Goins. Mrs. Goins was a farmer and a devoted and loving homemaker. She served as a lifelong faithful member of Union Light Baptist Church.

She was also preceded in death by her children, Jesse Andrew Goins, Terry Clayton Goins, Juanita Diane Goins, and Esther Pauline Goins; grandchildren Felicia Goins, Ronnie, Frank and Roger Smith and Baby Girl Smith; a son-in-law, John Walter Smith; and all of her siblings.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons, Charles W. Goins and wife Dorothy of Maxton, and Jesse James Goins and wife Martha of Maxton; daughters Retha Mae Smith of Maxton, Annie Ruth Goins Molina and husband Thomas of Houston, Texas, Mary “Susie” Goins Tyner and husband Marshall of Maxton, and Judy Goins Strickland and husband Charles of Maxton; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and four great great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.

The visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21 at Union Light Baptist Church, Highway 130, Maxton.
