City Council swearing in today: Audit to be discussed at meeting

Kenton Spencer will officially join the council at a swearing-in ceremony today at noon.

Spencer beat Rembert DeBerry for the at-large council seat on Nov. 3.

The meeting will be in the upstairs chamber room, located atop the Municipal meeting.

Councilmen Herbert Rainer and Tommy Parker will also both be sworn in after winning reelection for their District 1 and District 2 seats, respectively.

The council will then name a new mayor pro tem.

The mayor pro tem fills in for the mayor should he be unable to attend a meeting or function. The mayor pro tem retains their vote while serving in the mayor's stead.

The new council will then have its first meeting tonight at 7.

On the agenda is:

• An audit for fiscal year 2008-2009 will be presented to council.

• Outgoing-Mayor Pro Tem Rembert DeBerry will be recognized for his service tot he city of Laurinburg.

• The new administrative assistant to the Laurinburg Downtown Revitalization Corporation will be introduced to council.

• City council will meet behind closed doors to discuss ongoing payment issues with Schoollink, Inc. with their attorney.
