The Scotland County Job Fair provided an opportunity for those out of work to find area employment. About 50 employers were on site to take applications and resumes from job seekers.
Shawntel McRae, who moved back to the area a few months ago and has been looking for employment ever since, was among those in attendance at the third annual event. He seemed hopeful that one of the jobs he was applying for might pan out for him.
"I think it's a great opportunity for people to come look for jobs since there's a recession and there aren't too many jobs around," McRae said.
The National Guard Armory seemed filled to capacity Friday as employers met with potential employees during the third annual event.
WIth a local 16.5 percent unemployment rate, hundreds of people streamed into the armory in search of work.
One of the employers present was Ronnie Gordon, lead recruiter for the Linc Government Services office in Fayetteville.
His company is a major contractor, and Gordon sees job fairs as good opportunities to look for the skills his company provides.
"We have contracts overseas, we have contracts over the United States, we run all of the military hospitals, we run all of the major airports in the United States and all of the Major League Baseball fields in the United States," Gordon said. "We are letting the community know that there are jobs out there, you just have to connect to the right people, go on those websites, be persistent and let them know that you're still looking."
