HIGH POINT—St. Andrews Presbyterian College seniors Galina Podolsky and Courtney McDonald were both selected to the 2009 Conference Carolinas Volleyball All-Conference Second Team as voted upon by the league’s head coaches announced Thursday.

Podolsky is a four-time All-Conference award winner for St. Andrews as the 2006 CVAC Freshman of the Year, 2007 Conference Carolinas All-Conference Honorable selection, and 2008 & 2009 Conference Carolinas All-Conference Second Team honoree.

The Raleigh, N.C., product has also been a two-time Conference Carolinas Player of the Week in her collegiate career and a 2008 NCCSIA All-State choice. Podolsky will graduate as one of the Knights most decorated volleyball players in the program’s division II era having accumulated nearly 1,800 kills and over 660 digs, 370 total digs, and 210 service aces.

Podolsky, who played a combination of middle blocker and outside hitter for St. Andrews in 2009, led the Lady Knights with 2.78 kills per set, 0.68 aces per set, and a .192 hitting percentage. Podolsky also ranked high on the team with 1.51 digs and 0.55 blocks per set.

Podolsky is currently ranked ninth nationally in service aces per set.

McDonald, who transferred to St. Andrews from Ave Maria University for her senior season, jumped right in the lineup as the Knights libero and earned All-Conference attention for her outstanding play.

A Leander, Texas native, McDonald produced over 450 digs for St. Andrews and led the Knights with 4.2 digs per set. McDonald ranks second in the conference in digs. McDonald also provided SAPC with 0.38 aces per set, which ranks amongst the league leaders.

Conference Carolinas announces the All-Conference teams during this week’s Conference Carolinas Championship Volleyball Tournament. Awards include All-Conference First, Second, & Third teams, Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, and Freshman of the Year. Head coaches from conference member institutions nominate and then vote on the award winners who represent the best of the best for the league. The conference championships started Tuesday with the top eight teams qualifying for quarterfinal action. St. Andrews was the No. 8 seed and was eliminated by top-seeded Lees-McRae College, 3-0, on Tuesday.
