A Scotland County businessman has joined the race for the 8th Congressional District seat.

Darrell Day is trying to gain next year's Republican Party nomination to run against incumbent Larry Kissell.

Day is the owner of East Coast Umbrella, Inc.

Day said he is running to to create jobs, reduce dependence on foreign energy, and bring deficit spending under control.

"We cannot continue the course we are on," he said. "Somebody has got to do something."

Day believes that he can be a force to help return America back to its roots. He also says he can restore trust between the American people and the person they elect represent them.

Day, who lives in Richmond County, said he spends a lot of his time serving his community and mankind through his church outreach project, jail ministry, and missionary trips to India and Mexico.
