Medal winners in the local games are qualified to participate in the NC State finals held each fall. This year we had eighteen athletes return from the state games with thirty medals. Most medalists from the state games are then qualified to participate in the National Senior Olympics which are held every two years.
This year on the 25th Anniversary of our NC State games there were over 3,000 participants vying for awards in 50 or more events. Seniors compete in separate categories by gender and by age in 5 year increments.
This year's Opening Ceremony was held on Thursday, September 24 at WakeMed Soccer Stadium, Raleigh, NC beginning with a Parade of Participants, recognition of Torch Bearers from prior years and the entrance of the flame carried by this year's Torch Bearers, Alden and Nan Johnson of Scotland County. North Carolina Senior Games was started in 1983 as a year-round health promotion and education program for North Carolinians 55 years of age and better.
