When it comes to sports, there's the old saying: "There's strength in numbers."

Don't tell that to the eight-person ninth grade volleyball team at Scotland High School.

The Lady Scots capped off a perfect 14-0 season by defeating the 16-person Pinecrest ninth grade volleyball team, 2-0, in the first match. Scotland also won the second match, 2-0.

"The girls worked hard from the first day of camp in August until the last day of practice this week and it showed," Lady Scots Coach David Brooks said, his team did not drop a single game this season. "Each girl brought a little something different to the court and without them all, this wouldn't have been possible."

Scotland took game one of the first match in a see-saw battle, 25-23. They turned around in game two and built up a 21-12 lead, going on to win, 25-22.

After a quick break, the Lady Scots went back to work in the second match. They started the first game with eight straight points before the Lady Patriots got a point, and cruised to a 25-14 win.

Pinecrest (10-4) took the early advantage in game two before Scotland came back and claimed game two, 25-21.

Brianna Harris led the way for the Lady Scots with 21 service points, including six aces. Bailey Jacobs finished with 20 service points. Destiny Morrison and Destinee Grove rounded out the leaders with 12 and ten service points, respectively.

For the year, Harris led team with 186 service points. Sixty-eight of those points went for aces. Jacobs finished with 152 service points.

"The future of Scotland volleyball looks bright if these girls continue to stay together and continue to work hard," Brooks said.

As a team, Scotland outscored their opponents, 721-371.
