A Laurinburg man was arrested Wednesday in the death of a man found dumped in Laurel Hill.

Quatrell "Trell" Lamar Nicholson, 18, of 329 Grant Street, is the second person to be charged with first-degree murder in the shooting-death of 31-year old Chris McKoy, of Maxton.

McKoy's body was found dumped on the side of a road in Laurel Hill over a month ago.

"I don't want to go into details about how he was linked to [McKoy's death]," Sheriff Shep Jones said. "I don't want to do anything to jeopardize this case in any manner."

Jones also would not discuss possible locations for the murder.

Nicholson was transported from Robeson County jail to the Scotland County magistrate's office at 1 p.m. and had his first court appearance around 2:30 p.m.

Nicholson is awaiting trial for allegedly robbing the Family Dollar in Maxton. He is charged in that case with two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and four counts of second-degree kidnapping.

He is being held in the Robeson County jail without bond.

Nicholson has been convicted of breaking and entering and larceny.

McKoy's body was discovered Sept. 6 at about 7:30 a.m. on Rockingham Road between Corbitt Street and Old Wire Road, about two miles southwest of Laurel Hill, according to investigators.

He was shot in the head, chest and hands.

Investigators believe the murder likely happened elsewhere and was dumped on the side of the road.

Investigators have recovered a weapon they believe was used in the murder.

"Anytime you have a murder in your jurisdiction, you definitely want to find the people who are responsible for it and bring them to justice and that is what we want to continue to do," Jones said.

Carlton Lee Primus, 20, of 15660 Smith Road, Laurinburg, is also accused in McKoy's death and in the Family Dollar robbery.

Primus has prior convictions for possession of stolen goods, assault and shoplifting, according to the N.C. Department of Corrections.

He is currently awaiting trial on four felony counts of first degree kidnapping, two felony counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, assault by pointing a weapon and injury to real property for his involvement in the Family Dollar robbery.

Primus was involved in an association of people who committed criminal activities in the Maxton area, including robberies, investigators say.

Primus is suspected in at least one robbery being investigated by the Robeson County Sheriff's Office, an investigator said.
