The Stingers defeated the Florence Jr. Red Wolves in five innings, 9-0, in the first game. Austin Clark (four innings) and Justin Bowers (one inning) combined on a no-hitter while allowing just a single Florence player to reach base.
Bowers along with Nicholas Charleson and Josh Outlaw were the leadng hitters for Scotland.
The Stingers fell in the second game of the tournament, 7-4, to the Carolina Copperheads. Charleson and Donta Green led the way in the hit department.
Scotland would get a measure of retribution in the championship round, where they faced Carolina again, this time, defeating them, 9-8, to advance to the championship game.
Trailing 7-3 after three innings, the Stingers rallied for four runs in the top of the fourth. Green along with Bowers and Austin Taylor, all came up with big hits in the inning. All three of them, as well as Justin Ray scored in the inning.
Scotland took the lead for good, 9-7, in the fifth on a two-run hit from Cross Sellers, which scored Taylor from second base and Seth Hatchell all the way from first base.
After the big win, the Stingers managed just one run in the championship, falling to the Cavaliers, 12-1. Cody Yarborough had Scotland’s only run.
Taylor led team during the tournament with a .428 batting average. Charleson and Bowers batted .375 and .333 respectively while Green finished with a .300 average.
