Officials with Child Care Directions provided few details on why the nonprofit ousted its director and board president.

Gladys Holmes, recently-elected president of the board for Child Care Directions, would only confirm that Troy Young was no longer the board president.

Young is still listed as board president on the nonprofit's Web site. Holmes is listed as first vice-president.

Young could not be reached for comment.

The Laurinburg Exchange reported on Thursday that Executive Director Sandy Carter had left the agency, although it has not been explained why.

Carter left the agency on Oct. 7, officials said.

Holmes would not say if Young's departure was related to Carter's exit from the agency.

Officials with the Scotland County District Attorney's office declined to comment on rumors that authorities were investigating the agency.

Young

According to Young's profile on talent6.com, a modeling and acting website, he spent five years in the military before spending 16 years as a private contractor. His current job is as an independent insurance agent.

Young has served on the Child Care Direction board since November 2004. He is also a former chairman of the Republican Party of Scotland County.

Child Care Directions, Inc. is a non-profit child care resource and referral agency that was established in 1985.

Their mission is "to expand the availability of child care and to improve the quality of child care in our service area so that all children in the community will have an opportunity for healthy early childhood development."

The nonprofit is funded through private donations and federal and state grants.
