Marlboro officials say the arrest of a Laurinburg woman has ended a year of burglaries in the area.

Kimberly Dawn Brigman, 38, of Old Wire Road, Laurinburg, along with DeWayne Everett Quick, 31 of Red Bud Road, McColl, were arrested near Clio, S.C. Tuesday morning while trying to break into a property, according to the Marlboro County Sheriff's Office.

Brigman was arrested at the scene while Quick fled the scene, the report said.

Authorities say Quick was captured after about 10 minutes into a search that included the Scotland County sheriff's office, McColl police, Bennettsville police and SLED and several blood hounds.

Officials say the two will be charged with more than 20 burglaries of varying degrees, larceny and malicious damage to property. A bond will be set later this week at a court hearing.

Marlboro investigators linked the pair to 13 burglaries in Marlboro County, mainly near Highway 83 in the Clio area. Quick was charged in all the burglaries though deputies believe Brigman was not involved in all the incidents.

They have also linked Quick to eight burglaries in McColl and the pair to a burglary in Dillon County, S.C.

Scotland investigators also plan to talk with Quick about a number of burglaries in Scotland County.

"I am asking anybody that has bought anything or received anything from Quick or Brigman to please come forward," Lt. Jamie Seales said. "This investigation will turn to another phase now of trying to return as much merchandise to the victims as possible. We have recovered some items already."

Seales said the crimes are likely linked to drug problems.

Marlboro Sheriff Fred Knight recognized several of his officers in the arrest,

"I would like to commend Sgt. Terry Lemon's shift on the work they did," Knight said. "Deputies Ray Hall and Jeremy Steen did a great job securing the scene and capturing one of the suspects. Their quick response time made the difference in this case."

Deputies weren't the only ones who made a difference, the sheriff said.

"Once again, our bloodhound program is paying dividends in suppressing criminal activity."

He also thanked assisting agencies for their help.

Quick and Brigman both have prior criminal histories and Quick has previously been convicted of burglary, Marlboro officials say.
