Man charged with stealing drugs

A pharmacist employee was charged with stealing prescription drugs from his work, according to the State Bureau of Investigation.

Burt Dean was arrested on Sept 25 and charged with four counts of embezzlement of a controlled substance by employee, according to an SBI report.

Dean confessed that he took drugs for personal use from his employers, Medical Village Pharmacy and Scotland Pharmacy, the report said. Both stores are in Laurinburg.

Dean was released on a written promise to appear at subsequent court appointments. The investigation is ongoing.

Chicken farm reports B&E

An employee of a chicken farm told deputies their facility was the victim of a break-in and over $6,000 in property was taken, according to a sheriff's report.

Murphy Brown Farms on Beaver Dam Road reported on Saturday that someone broke into the business and stole property, the report said.

Listed as missing on the report were $3,825 in tools, a pregnancy tester valued at $3,000, $90 in plywood, and $25 in keys. Damages were $1,100 to the front gate and $200 to the phone lines.

Accused trafficker charged

Deputies charged a Maxton man with drug trafficking, a sheriff's report said.

Luis Banilla Jr., 26, of Vernie Drive, was arrested on Saturday and charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, trafficking opium and heroin, and possession of a firearm by a felon, according to a sheriff’s report.

He was being held at Robeson County jail under a $50,000 bond.

Four-wheeler reported stolen

A Maxton woman told deputies a four-wheeler was stolen from her home.

Dianne Bullard, 49, of Sumpter Circle, reported that someone broke into her barn and stole a 2008 Yamaha Raptor four-wheeler, according to a sheriff’s report.

It was valued at $7,535.

Alleged larcenist arrested

A Laurinburg man accused of larceny and fraud was arrested over the weekend.

Jonathan Travis Sweeney, 22, of Academy Road is charged with two counts of larceny, two counts of forgery, uttering and larceny of a firearm, a sheriff's report said.
