A Laurel Hill woman found murdered Wednesday died of asphyxiation, a medical examiner said.

The woman, 46-year old Michelle Parks, was found with her hands tied behind her back and a plastic bag over her head Wednesday afternoon in her home at 19941 Old Hundred Road.

Jones said the medical examiner could not discern what caused other wounds on her body, though he believes there was a struggle before her death.

Jones said Michelle Parks was last seen alive at about 4 p.m. Monday. Neighbors asked deputies to check on Parks after her car was found on Fred Carter Road Monday night.

An initial check on Tuesday found the home secure, but during a second check of the home at 2:46 p.m. on Wednesday, a deputy found the back door open. He checked in the home and found Parks on the bathroom floor.

The same day that Parks was discovered, her 82-year old husband Wayne Parks was being transported to prison after pleading guilty Monday to multiple child molestation charges. He was sentenced to 10 years.

Wayne Parks, who has been in custody since before the murder, is not a suspect, but investigators declined to speculate on a possible connection between the murder and her husband's crimes.

The SBI are assisting in the investigation.

Jones says there are no solid leads yet on the case and asks anyone with information to call the Scotland County Sheriff's Department at 276-3385 or anonymously report their tip to Scotland Crime Stoppers at 291-3333.
