A Laurel Hill woman was found brutally murdered in her home Wednesday afternoon, according to sheriff's investigators.

The same day that Michelle Parks was discovered, her 82-year old husband Wayne Parks was being transported to prison after being convicted Monday on multiple child molestation charges. He was sentenced to 10 years.

Wayne Parks, who has been in custody, is not a suspect, but investigators declined to speculate on a possible connection between the murder and her husband's crimes.

Michelle Parks, 46, was found by a deputy in the bathroom of her residence at 19941 Old Hundred Road. Scotland County Sheriff Shep Jones said her hands were tied behind her back and a plastic bag was over her head.

It appears that she may have been stabbed.

Jones says the exact cause of death is undetermined. Jones said an autopsy will be performed at Chapel Hill.

"There are signs there was some kind of violent trauma that took place," he said.

Investigators have no suspects at this time.

Jones said Michelle Parks was last seen alive at about 4 p.m. Monday. Her car was found on Fred Carter Road later that night, around 9.

Jones said neighbors grew concerned so deputies check the house around 4 p.m on Tuesday. Finding the home secured, they left, Jones said.

On Wednesday, a deputy performed a second check at the home at 2:46 p.m., and found the back door open.

"He entered the back door and noticed the victim on the floor," Jones said.

The deputy then notified investigators and secured the crime scene.

Jones says the investigation were initially hindered by the 25 cats living in the home.

"The SBI has been called in to assist with the investigation," Jones said. "We hope to know a little more on Thursday."
