The funeral service will be 6 p.m. Saturday at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel. Burial will be 10 a.m. Sunday at Hillside Memorial Park.
He is survived by two sons, Jim Leach of Wilmington and John A. Leach of Brunswick, Md.; a daughter, Delta Giles of Clayton; seven grandchildren, Cooper Giles, Tammy Bundy, Caitlyn Giles, Stephanie Leach, Ryan Leach, Mary Elizabeth Leach, and John A. Leach, Jr.; and a great-grandchild, Aidan Giles. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Leach, a son, Stephen Leach and also by 11 brothers and sisters.
Born April 6, 1928 in Gellico,Tenn., he was a son of the late Robert Lee and Cora Leach. John was a 28 year veteran of the U.S. Army and served four tours of duty in Vietnam. He worked for Chisholm Construction Company for 20 years and was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church. John started the Military Retirees Association in Scotland County and served as the first president for three years. He and his wife were instrumental in getting the retired Gliders Pilot Memorial at the Laurinburg Maxton Airbase.
Visitation will be 5-6 p.m. Saturday prior to the funeral service at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
