The Scots (7-5-1 and 3-1 Southeastern Conf.) avenged a 3-2 loss to Richmond earlier in the season with the 1-0 win over the Raiders.
In a rough and physical game, Scotland prevailed over Richmond.
"It was a battle," head coach Colin McDavid said. "We played hard and came out on top."
"It was a physical game because it is a Scotland, Richmond game," McDavid said. "You can expect that when you play Richmond County."
Richmond (7-5-1 and 0-3-1 Southeastern Conf.) is on a two game losing streak in the Southeastern Conference after Scotland's win on Wednesday night.
Scotland played well in every aspect of the game against Richmond.
"This game against Richmond was our smartest one of the season," McDavid said. "We played well offensively and defensively tonight and as a coach you can't ask for anything more."
With the win Scotland goes to second place in the Southeastern Conference one game behind Pinecrest.
"The guys deserve to be in the position they are right now," McDavid said. "They are accomplishing every task I ask of them."
"We continue to get better as the season goes on," McDavid said.
In the first half, Scotland had some good chances to score but were not able to capitalize.
Scotland's best chance to score in the first half was mid-way through the half were Scotland received a corner kick. Aaron Stevens played the corner kick into the 6-yard box where Joseph Monroe was there to one timed the ball. Monroe's attempt looked to be a goal but was saved by Richmond's goalkeeper.
The score would stay 0-0 into half time.
In the 52nd minute, Scotland would get on the board.
Scotland received their second and final corner kick of the game. Aaron Stevens took the corner kick again and bent the ball in the back of the net near post. Stevens' goal would be the game winner over Richmond.
Scotland then played tough defense to finish off the game with the 1-0 victory.
Richmond finished the night with 12 shots total while Scotland had nine. In the first half Scotland out shot Richmond with six shots to five. Richmond had more shots on goal with a four to two ratio. In the second half, Richmond out shot Scotland seven to three.
Senior netminder Josh Wheeler got the start for the Scots. Wheeler who received the win for Scotland had a game high seven saves on the night for Scotland.
The Raiders had more corner kicks on the night as well. Richmond had six corners while Scotland had two on the night.
The Scots will a week off due to a bye game and Purnell Swett does not a have a soccer team. Scotland will open the second leg of conference play in Southern Pines against Pinecrest on October 12.
