"The Blessing of Animals service has a couple of hymns, a couple of Bible readings, and an introduction to showcased animals from Scotland County's Humane Society," the Rev. Marty Stebbins of St. David's said. "The animals are brought forward individually to one of the three clergy, the Rev. Linda Nelson, the Rev. Neal Carter, or myself, to have hands laid onto fur, scale or cage for an individual blessing."
Stebbins said that all animals will receive a blessing.
"Indeed, all animals are welcome," she said. "Properly restrained is what we ask and hope for, including leashes for dogs, halters and leads for horses, and cages for lizards and other pocket pets."
Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Scotland County Humane Society.
"The offering of any cash that people bring to donate to the Humane Society will be appreciated," Stebbins said. "Supplies and food will also be delivered if donated. There is no charge for this event; we just ask people to donate for those animals less fortunate than their own."
St. David's church member Kyle Bethel invites everyone to take part in the ceremony.
"We are very excited that the Lutheran Church of the Living Word and Laurinburg Presbyterian will be joining St. David's at our labyrinth this year," she said. "The public is invited and encouraged to attend this delightful service, along with any pets whom the owners would like to have blessed."
Ecumenical choral music will accompany the service.
