To the editor:

Don’t let myths about health care reform scare you. Are you among the many that have heard the debates and read the reports, and still have questions about how the proposed changes will affect you?

Mr. Robert Jackson will be the featured speaker for the local chapter of AARP at 2 pm on Oct 15. Mr. Jackson is a member of the NC State Community Outreach Committee of AARP – North Carolina. His job is to clear up the misconceptions about health care reform and to state the facts about what health care reform means for your family and for you and your medicare. He can tell us what is good about current health care and the need to preserve it and what’s wrong and the need to fix it now.

The challenges are great. As mature adults our experiences have prepared us to weigh carefully and consider diligently the cause and effect of our present dilemma and the proposed legislation that is being considered to alleviate all or most of our health care problems and still remain affordable. To improve health care and lower costs to individuals we must be better equipped with the facts to face these challenges and to find fair and common-sense solutions. As a better informed public we can make intelligent choices and make our voices heard.

Come, hear the facts then help make the choices that will lower costs, improve quality, and give all Americans affordable health care choices.

AARP is a national organization representing the interests of older people. One of the primary goals of our local chapter is to relate to our state and national offices and to our legislative branches of government our views on proposed legislation. Since its beginning AARP has initiated, developed and reinvented programs to meet the needs of a changing America, and now is no different.

All AARP members and those eligible to become members are invited to attend this information session and learn more of the facts about health care reform. Our local chapter 5391 AARP will meet at Scotland Place Senior/Civic Center on Turnpike Road at 2 p.m. on Thursday, 15 October 2009.
