Smith named Merit Scholarship commended student

Sam Smith, a senior at the Scotland High School of Math, Science and Technology, was named a Commended Student in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Smith received a letter of commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program

.About 34,000 Commended students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2010 competition for National Merit Scholarships, these students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2010 competition by taking the 2008 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

“We are very proud of Sam and everything he has been able to accomplish here at MST,” said principal Mark Duckworth. “I am sure this won’t be the last bit of good news we will sharing about this young man.”
