Margaret (Peggy) Jones Kanouse passed peacefully at home in El Paso, Texas on Sept. 27, 2009 while surrounded by her loving children. Peggy was born on Nov. 7, 1935 and grew up in Laurel Hill. She attended the University of East Carolina, graduating in 1957 with honors. She was preceded in death by her father, William H. Jones; her mother, Emma Jones; and her brother Willie “Puddin’ Head" Jones. She is survived by her daughter Tracy Dean Chisum and her husband, David Chisum of Dallas, Texas; her daughter Meredith Athens and her husband, Darren Athens of El Paso, Texas; her son John Kanouse and his wife, Tiziana Kanouse of Prosper, Texas; and her brother J.W. Jones and his wife, Vivian Jones of Shreveport, La. She was a beloved Nana to four grandchildren: Andrew Even, Amanda Athens, Thomas Kanouse, and William Kanouse. Peggy and her family moved to El Paso from Boston, Mass. in 1976. She worked as an executive administrative assistant at The Popular department store for many years. She also taught at the El Paso Community College and the El Paso Independent School District until retirement in 2004. Peggy’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her favorite hobbies were cooking and playing bridge, and she belonged to several bridge groups and professional associations. She had a great sense of humor, incredibly strong spirit, and friendly, loving nature. The many cards, flowers, and prayers she received from her friends helped to comfort her through her illness. We also want to thank Alicia Ramirez from Home Instead, and Odyssey Hospice for your love, care, and compassion over the last several months. Peggy will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 at Western Hills United Methodist Church, 524 Thunderbird, El Paso, Texas. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the music program at Western Hills United Methodist Church, 524 Thunderbird, El Paso, TX 79912.

Services entrusted to Martin Funeral Home West, 128 N. Resler Dr., El Paso, TX 79912.
