A Gibson teen accused of killing his mother was denied a bond reduction in a court hearing on Wednesday.

William Luke Cousins, 17, of the 4300 block of Main Street, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his mother, 39-year old Sarah Williams.

Cousins' defense attorney asked that bond be reduced from $250,000 to $150,000.

District Attorney Kristy Newton gave a brief overview of the crime to the judge, saying Cousins "ambushed" his mother as she came home from work, while loud music was playing to cover the sounds of gunfire.

Newton said he seemed unfazed by the death of his mother, using her debit card for a night on the town the evening of the murder.

Newton said Cousins had told investigators he was planning to commit suicide but was interrupted when Williams came in, shooting her by accident.

Cousins then dumped Williams' body in some woods in Marlboro County, S.C.

Cousins was arrested Jan. 24 by the Scotland County Sheriff's Department. The State Bureau of Investigation and Marlboro County Sheriff's Office have assisted in the investigation.
