A Laurinburg teenager had his first appearance in court on Monday in connection with the recent robbery at the Maxton Family Dollar store.

Quatrell Damar Nicholson, 18, of 329 Grant Street, was arrested Friday and charged with two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and four counts of second-degree kidnapping, according to Maxton Police Chief Paul McDowell. Nicholson is in Robeson County jail under a $200,000 secured bond.

Nicholson is the second arrest in this case.

Carlton Lee Primus, 20, of 15560 Smith Road was arrested Tuesday in the incident and charged with two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, four counts of second-degree kidnapping, one count of assault by pointing a gun and one count of injury to real property. He had his first court appearance Thursday.

Primus was identified in part by a video released by police of the robbery. He is in Robeson County jail under a $250,000 secured bond.

Detective Jamie Oxendine declined to comment on how Nicholson was identified as a robber, citing several ongoing investigations.

Maxton police say the incident occurred on Aug. 23 at about 3:23 p.m.

Two men entered the Family Dollar with handguns, each wearing masks and gloves, police say. They robbed the store clerk and left with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to police.

No one was injured in the incident.

Police released a video of one of the suspects leaving out the back door that showed portions of a man's face.

In the video, the robber takes about two minutes to unlock and open the back door, then briefly glances around before running through the door.

Some were critical of the initial response as it happened in broad daylight less than a mile from the Maxton Police Station and no one was apprehended.

An eyewitness told The Laurinburg Exchange that it took 10 minutes for police to get to the crime scene, then they just drove in circles around the store.

Primus has prior convictions for possession of stolen goods, assault and shoplifting, according to the N.C. Department of Corrections.

Nicholson has been convicted of breaking and entering and larceny.
