Scotland tennis takes win over Richmond

The Scotland High School women's tennis team picked up another win on Thursday afternoon at the Scotland County Tennis Courts.

The Scots (4-2) beat the Richmond Raiders by the score of 9-0.

In singles matches, Scotland took six straight points to take an early lead over the Raiders.

Scotland number one Jessie Boda took on Richmond's numbers one Lauren Grant. Boda defeated Grant in straight sets with the scores of 6-0 and 6-0.

Sara Harling took on Alyssa Reynolds for the Scots on Thursday afternoon. Scotland's number two won her match over Reynolds with the scores of 6-1 and 6-2.

On Court number three, Scotland's Eleanor Sojka took on Maggie McKenzie of Richmond Senior High. Sojka won with the scores of 6-1 and 6-1 on the afternoon.

Munroe Buie picked up Scotland's fourth point against the Raiders. In Buie's number four singles match she defeated Taylor Webb by the scores of 6-0 and 6-0.

Jessica Shelley went up against Farhana Shemira for the Scots and picked up the win. Shelley beat Shemira in straight sets by the scores of 6-1 and 6-0 respectively.

In the final singles match of the afternoon, Scotland's Charlotte Laurent defeated Richmond's Courtney Pope in straight sets. The scores of the match were 6-0 and 6-1.

In doubles, Boda and Sojka got the day off as Scotland's number doubles team.

Harling and Buie took over the number one doubles team for the Scots against the Raiders. Harling and Buie went up against Grant and Reynolds and won by the scores of 8-2.

Shelley and Cori Newton defeated Richmond's McKenzie and Webb in their doubles match. The score was 8-4 respectively.

Mary Tate and Laurent got their first taste of doubles on Thursday afternoon against Richmond. Tate and Laurent took on Shermira and Pope to get the final point for the Scots. The score was 8-2.

The Fighting Scots will host Purnell Swett next Thursday at the Scotland County Tennis Courts at 4 p.m.
