The Scotland High School varsity volleyball team hosted the Pinecrest Patriots on Tuesday evening in a conference match and won.

The Scots (11-0 and 2-0 conf.) took the win over the Patriots in straight sets 25-14, 2514 and 25-19.

In the first set the Scots showed their dominance in the serving game, just like any other game this season. Scotland served Pinecrest out of their offense in the first set.

In the second set, Scotland had times where they played sluggish with hitting error after hitting error and missed serves. Scotland would turn it around and picked up the offense with timely hitting from Whitney Campbell and serving from Candace Carter.

In the third set the sloppy play continued but the Scots were able to come out on top.

Candace Carter had 11 serving points leading the Scots in serving. She served the ball 17 times with no errors on the night. Carter also had 26 setting assists for the Scots.

Whitney Campbell had nine serving points for the Scots. Campbell also had 15 kills at the net hitting a percentage of .333 against the Patriots. Campbell also had 15 out of 18 passes to target which amounts to 83 percent. She also had seven defensive digs leading the team.

"Whitney Campbell was absolutely dominating on both sides of the net tonight," Head Coach David Barnes said.

Josephine Yang had eight serving points with three serving aces respectively. Yang also was the leading passer with 30 out 35 passes to target with amounts to 86 percent.

Jessica Bowen had five kills at the net for the Scots.

Taborah Hollingsworth and Sarah Laviner each had four kills apiece against Pinecrest.

Scotland served the ball 73 times and only had three serving errors. Also as a team the Scots finished the game with 12 aces. Scotland served the ball at 96 percent against Pinecrest.

"We served very well today, our good serving kept Pinecrest out of their offense," Barnes said. "Good serving is always a part of our game plan."

"We were able to stay in our offense with our serving tonight," Barnes said. "We have to keep getting better as the season goes on though."

The Fighting Scots will host Hoke County in another conference match on Thursday. Games will start at around 6 p.m.
