A man found dead in Laurel Hill of Labor Day weekend died of gunshot wounds, a medical examiner report said.

Investigators don't have suspects or a motive.

The body of Chris McKoy, 31, of 127 Honey Lane Road, Maxton was found Sunday morning on the side of Rockingham Road between Corbitt Street and Old Wire Road, about two miles southwest of Laurel Hill.

The medical examiner report says McKoy died of at least five gunshot wounds he sustained, according to Captain David Newton.

Newton says these are the preliminary results, and a full autopsy will be completed in October. They hope the final autopsy will determine if he was shot more than five times.

Sherif Shep Jones said previously to The Laurinburg Exchange that investigators believe McKoy's body was dumped from a vehicle and that the shooting occurred elsewhere.

A blue bandana was reportedly found near McKoy's body, but Jones would not say if investigators believe the shooting was gang-related.

McKoy had several prior convictions in neighboring Robeson County, including assault, resisting officers and a number of drug charges, according to DOC records.

He spent about 18 months in prison.
